Despite having a rich history of local businesses, much of the infrastructure for entrepreneurial ventures was destroyed during periods of urban renewal. Jobs with livable wages are inaccessible to many due to a lack of local opportunities and lack of reliable transportation to regional manufacturing jobs. Southside Sankofa seeks the establishment or expansion of numerous resources including mentoring and apprenticeship programs, a business incubator, white collar internships, improved public transportation routes and scheduling, and programs in job skills and lifelong learning.
